Dans l’attente de l’Eau qui Chante – Paris Spoke
Dans l’attente de l’Eau qui Chante (whilst waiting for the water to sing) – Paris Spoke, says it so beautifully. In June 2025 I took myself on a solo trip to Paris – the first 5 days of solitude in my 15 years of motherhood and what an incredible adventure it was. I was so extremely lucky to find a wonderful apartment to stay in with such kind and generous hosts who curated the most fantastically artistic breakfast spread each day – little did they know I was in a still life phase of painting! They had a tiny galley kitchen which oozed Parisian style and was completely baby blue and white; even the sink was porcelain with blue daisies. On the first morning I put the stainless steel kettle on the stove to make my morning cup of tea, went and got dressed and on my return expected to find it boiling, but an old style electric hob and a traditional kettle take more time. I was in no rush and in the enforced pause I looked about the kitchen, enjoying the tidiness, colour scheme and then my eyes came to rest on the sink and the window – it stopped me in my tracks and spoke to me of how simple and touchingly beautiful the morning sun dancing over the windowsill herbs and streaming across the porcelain sink could be. Without a second thought I ran to my room and returned with my felt tips and paper and sketched it. On my return I knew that this was a special scene to recreate. And so “dans l’attente de L’Eau qui Chante – Paris Spoke”.
It is an acrylic on canvas, stretched onto a solid pine frame and measures 60 x 90cm, and is ready to hang.
