Lyme Regis Fisherman’s Cobb

This is a jolly painting of the Cobb where the fisherman’s training college perches, exposed to all the elements at the end of the harbour wall.  They day I went to have a closer look I had to dance between the waves that were crashing over the wall – really quite exciting.  When I got there I was fascinated by how beautiful all the nets were, layered up on top of each other and both surprised and delighted when, as I walked along, a family of sparrows flew out from what must have been a little home they had made in the nets.  The buoys and nets create such joyful pops of colour against the lichen covered roof and grey, weather-beaten building.  I painted the scene imagining a rather sunnier day.  Well worth a visit.

Acrylic on canvas and measures 70 x70cm.
